Conferences by Dr Amy Heller, researcher affiliated with the Tibet team of the Centre for Research on the Civilisations of East Asia (CNRS/Paris) and the University of Bern, Institute for Science of Religions.
Overview of Tibetan history from the Tibetan Empire to the presentday (600-2024 CE).
Illustrated by archaeological artefacts, works of Tibetan Buddhist art (textiles, sculptures, paintings) and secularand sacred architecture which show the development of Tibetan civilisation over the centuries and help reflect on the political and religious future of Tibet.
First session
7th to 16th century: the Empire, the introduction and flourishing of Buddhism in Tibet.
Second session
17th to 21th century: the establishment of the government by the Dalai Lama, followed by the Chinese invasion of Tibet and its aftermath.
